My husband tells me I am overreacting about my iron levels. Like. “Excuse Me??” I would LOVE to not have to think about my iron every second of every day of my life! Do your friends and family get it, or do they make you think you are making a big deal out of nothing?

I feel like my brain just isn’t working right lately. I forget what I’m saying mid-sentence, I walk into rooms and forget why, and some days I just feel completely out of it. I know iron overload can cause brain fog, but I thought once I started phlebotomies, it would get better.

My ferritin has dropped from 820 to 290 but honestly, I don’t feel any different. If anything, I feel more tired and foggy than before. Does this eventually go away, or is this just how it is now? Has anything helped you clear your head?

I know exactly what you mean! I used to joke that I had ‘HH brain,’ but it was actually scary sometimes—losing words, forgetting what I was doing, just generally in a fog. It will get better once you get your levels at or under 50. Then I swear it is like the Fog has lifted! Then you will really see how foggy you were. I did not find or look for anything that helps with Brian Fog. Following!!! Would love some advice as well if anyone has found anything that works.

Ugh, brain fog was probably my worst symptom. I thought I had early dementia at one point! The good news is, it did get better for me, but it took a few months after my ferritin was in the normal range.

The things that helped me the most: Getting enough protein, I wasn’t eating enough and felt even weaker, Even just a short walk helped clear my head. Steam Room, Sauna & detox baths!! I swear by the sweating, sometimes we are too tired to exercise. I have seen tons of studies that say sweating is a great detox treatment.

Great advice! Are you doing the Ionic Detox baths, or the home version I saw? I want to try an Ionic, I really love the Detox Bath! If you just joined you many not have seen check out the weekly exclusives. They have a Detox Bath, a foot mask (OMG your feet after is crazy) I swear by that one, you can even put it on your stomach! It is used as a face mask but you add a lot more than water!

This is only my second phlebotomy, and I’m doing them every other week. My ferritin was <strong data-start=”392″ data-end=”399″>960 when I started, and my doctor wants me under <strong data-start=”445″ data-end=”452″>100.

I had a phlebotomy yesterday, and today I feel like I got hit by a truck. 😩 I drank a ton of water before and after, but I still feel completely drained. My arms feel weak, I have a headache, and I just want to sleep all day.

How long does it usually take you to feel normal again after a phlebotomy? Do you do anything specific to recover faster? Also—how long do you think it will take before my ferritin gets under 100? I feel like I have a long road ahead.”*

It is hard in the beginning, my ferritin was over 1,000 when I started, and I was doing weekly phlebotomies. The first few were brutal—I felt wiped out for two days straight, like I had no energy left in my body. The good news is, it does get easier as your body adjusts.
This really helps me: Electrolytes, A Heavy Metal before, an IV drip with vitamins, minerals, and a B12 injection! They also started doing the IV (with the vitamins and minerals) at the same time as the phlebotomy and it was a game changer! I actually felt fine the very next day.

Anytime! I hope that helps! If they don’t offer it or they are charging too much, you can always try an outside source. I am not sure where you live, but we have IV “bars” all over. You can even get a membership. I have tried all kinds of ones. The Meyers Cocktail, Anti-Aging, regulate sleep, Detoxify your body, Increased Memory. Good Luck and keep us posted!

IP-6 (Insoitol Hexaphosphate: Main Ingredient in The Binding Factor
    Backed By Research:

    IP-6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate)

    • Iron Chelation
      & Oxidative Stress Reduction:
IP-6 (phytic acid) is a natural
iron chelator that can reduce iron overload in tissues. In a hereditary
hemochromatosis mouse model, adding IP-6 to the diet lowered iron levels
in the liver and heart by ~26–50% and significantly reduced lipid
peroxidation (TBARS) caused by excess iron

    pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

These findings indicate IP-6 protects against iron-induced oxidative damage in vivo

    pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Studies also show IP-6 can attenuate inflammation associated with iron overload. In iron-loaded mice, IP-6 supplementation down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6) in the liver, while improving liver cell integrity.

How is it that I have never heard of this? EVER! Thank you, I am going to read this , “is it a medical journal”? It says .gov I am just surprised my Dr. never said anything about this, since it is natural. Has anyone ever tried this? Has it worked for you?

I must say I am skeptical because I have never heard of this either. I cannot imagine this works, it just seems too easy. I really do not know what to say, what else is in this Binding Factor. I looked IP6 up and it is on the Governments websites’. that part is all legit…

I have heard of it, my Brother In-Law takes this as an alternative medicine for Parkinson’s. I never heard them say anything about it chelating iron. Or Iron being related to Parkinson’s. I am going to ask my Dr. tomorrow!

Lately I am having the worst Brain Fog. My Ferritin was 160, my TIBC 263, Sat % 54, Iron 142. I am 100% vegan and do not know why my Ferritin has jumped so high in just 3 months. My Ferritin was at 41 just a few months ago. I know this sounds crazy, but does it have something to do with the cold. I am not as active for sure in the cold. I would love any feed back. My Brain Fog has not been this bad in many years.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this brain fog—you are not alone! Your ferritin jump is interesting, and the cold/lower activity could absolutely play a role. Less movement can slow down circulation and metabolism, possibly affecting how your body processes iron.

Since you’ve been vegan for a while and avoid iron-fortified foods, inflammation might be the culprit. Ferritin can rise due to stress, immune response, or even seasonal changes. Have you noticed any recent illnesses, stress, or inflammation symptoms?

A few things that might help:

Increase Polyphenols – Green tea, coffee, or walnuts can help block iron absorption naturally.

Gentle Movement – Even stretching or house walking can help circulation.

Support Anti-Inflammation – Curcumin, quercetin, and omega-3s can help bring ferritin down.

Yes, I have been very stressed lately. My son is not behaving as I wish and as a grandmother I feel like I am in the middle. I think I am a little depressed with the thought of them separating. I usually have little to no stress, do you think that and the weather could play such a role?

    • #3205

      Anonymous
      Guest

That makes so much sense. Stress alone can absolutely impact your ferritin levels and brain fog. When we’re under emotional stress, our bodies release inflammatory cytokines, which can increase ferritin as part of the body’s response.

Pair that with the colder months, less movement, and possible seasonal changes, and it’s no wonder you’re feeling off. You’re not alone in this!

A few gentle things that might help:

Deep breathing or meditation – Even 5 minutes a day can lower stress hormones and help regulate iron metabolism.

You see Oxidate Stress as leading cause of SO much illness! That and inflammation! They don’t sound that bad, but they lead to serious health issues. Take a Bubble Bath with some candles, read a book or listen to calming music.

I wrote on the same subject! Great minds think a like I guess! I went for the personal aspect, what it would have changed in my life. For instance I would not have had a hysterectomy just because they could not figure out what was wrong. It is so sad, it’s a simple test! Did you have your edited? I did, because I have never written to get published. For $9.99 and the chance, it sounded pretty reasonablevto me. Have you heard back? What was your angle?

I guess great minds do think alike! LOL I did not have mine edited, but I am kind of re-considering… I am no professional writer. I went with the angle of all the things Hemochromatosis leads to and the immense financial burden it puts on Insurance, Insurance rates for everyone, and that they could save so many lives. Fingers crossed.

I think that is a really good angle! like they always say Follow the Money! Insurance companies do Lobby for things like that. They want to save money. I am not sure the Dr.’s and Hospitals care, they are the ones making a killing!

You actually made me think maybe I should have just stuck with the Insurance side. They did point out to stay on ONE topic. Besides with all the new information coming out, even Dr.’s are quitting practices and going Holistic. Good thing we can try again and just go with the Insurance side. Oh, sorry I just submitted today and I got an automatic reply, but nothing official. You?

They were right I did steer off topic a bit, they gave me a new Article, some tips, and I fixed some things so it would sound more like me. I got an answer within an hour it was accepted! They are sending it off to several places within 24 hours!!! Really Exciting, Fingers Crossed!

Hi! I am working on one. I want to write about Alternate Therapies. You both have me thinking, I find myself going off topic as well. It is hard not to! There is just so much to be said! I know it’s not a popular belief with everyone, but diet, exercise and alternative therapies have really helped me so much! Since I have really made some serious changes, I went from having phlebotomies about every 3-4 months and now I have gone 8 months, and my levels are still under 50! I am at 42!!

Good for you! I personally think a lot of people in FB groups say that because they don’t want to hear it or change. I know I need to make some changes and overall we all know diet and exercise do help! I could use some tips, I struggle with exactly what to eat, when, with what. Plus I need to make going to the gym a priority.

Thanks, refreshing! I am used to hearing “My Dr. said I did not need to change my diet”, or ” it’s Ok, to eat out of Cast Iron” I wish there was a puke emoji. I personally do not eat read meat, the Heme Iron Content, plus it’s not great for you… I do eat some fish and lean chicken. I “try” to do Vegan dishes and Plant Based. Have you ever watched Forks over Knives? It really helped me, it’s on Netflix, about a very large study and how they were curing people with food. You are right, everyone is finally talking about what is in our food. If that is not scary enought~ I force myself to work out 4 times a week, one day I do Yoga. Even light stretching is great. Just take time to relax with yourself in a quiet space. I hope that doesn’t sound too?? Life is so fast paced, we need time to de-stress. I also take a lot of supplements, I am 100% off of any prescription medicine! You should do the Custom Meal Plans. They are great!! I was skeptical because I am so strict about what I ate, but I love them! They are using a very expensive A.I. and I love it, I feel like it gets better and better! No processed foods, no fast food! Tin Foil, Aluminum, deodorant, what you cook in, Toxic Metals are everywhere, I am full of Iron enough! Hope that was not too much, just trying to help..Promise!

Good for you! My levels always are higher in the winter! I always wonder if it does have to do with Heat or Sunshine. In the summer I don’t really need one, in the winter every few months. I hate them, it’s like a roller coaster of feeling good and sick again! Do you mind me asking what supplements you take… Not sure if that is allowed, as it is not Dr.’s orders. They steered me wrong so many times, the last thing I am going to do is “take their word for it!” Any other tips you have? I still eat red meat on occasion, I just sometimes can’t pass it up, I grew up on BEEF…. I only do it once a week.. Spaghetti without meatballs, or Bolognese, that is where I struggle!

Thanks both of you, in my FB group they always made me feel like I was doing something wrong by trying something different! I’m from the MidWest so I understand giving up red meat is hard! To be honest, I watched PETA videos, and I am not trying to push them on anyone! That 100% cured me…So sad, again I am not pushing anyone. You do you. Food Prep was also invaluable to me, I would come home, be hungry. Plan on eating healthy, then have nothing ready, and just like that I was eating crap because it was easy! Now I have a freezer full of awesome meals, I just do the fresh things I need each week. I was spending Sundays doing 2 large batches of things that freeze well and that I loved. Homemade Vegan Lasagna, Ground Chicken Burgers, Black Bean Chili, Chicken Taco meat, Veggie Pasta, I have Black bean burger mix, that I can sauté and make wraps, salads, or burgers with. It’s just me and my husband, I make 16 Chicken Burgers at a time, wrap them in non-toxic parchment paper, and put them in a container. For the last month, I have just asked what he wanted for dinner. I am so caught up from prepping on Sundays, we are stocked! It is cheaper and so much healthier.

Oh, I forgot, I am taking The Binding Factor! I did some research on what is in there. I had never heard of IP6, Reservatrol, Quercetin, I also thought you needed to take a B-12 injection for it to work. You don’t! I’m sure we are not supposed to say but they do chelate metals, IP6 I say on NIH and CDC websites. Of course they are saying “It possibly or shows promise” When you see that many articles about it, I’ll try it! In the winter I took the Sweat Therapy advice and started to do a Red Light Sauna, they say it pulls out metals. I think you are right Lauren. This Iron thing does have do to with Heat and Exercise. We are outside more, doing more active things, SWEATING!

Hi, Adric, Lauren, and MidWest Iron Fighter! So glad you joined us! Hopefully you find it to be an easier group. I know MidWest has been here awhile, and we chat. You will find this is why we created this space. To challenge what we have been told, and to share our successes! This is not one size fits all! If you can Chelate Heavy Metals out of your system naturally why NOT Iron? Iron sadly is not even classified as a Heavy Metal, Eye roll! We have learned so much and we are completely honest in that we do use the pro version of A.I. the same one President Trump just invested 500 Billion in. So, we are not Dr.’s for sure, but the research does not lie… The Binding Factor is to be taken in the am, first thing. Because of the strength of things like IP6, we could not put essential minerals in the first one we came out with. It “possibly, could, might, who knows” chelate metals which would make some other things we need obsolete. Because they: “may possibly pull” those out as well, MAYBE! We are working on a day and night formula as well. It should be ready in a few weeks! Stay Healthy!

Wow, that is refreshing! I saw posts on HH The Bloody Truth on Instagram about Sweat Therapy! My gym has a Steam Room and Sauna, I am going to do it tomorrow! It is still freezing cold here, I don’t know why I haven’t done it. Oh, I tried the steam room and was soaking wet, then it felt so cold when I left. Now I will just hit the Sauna after! I want to try The Binding Factor, but honestly I have always heard “THERE IS NO OTHER TREATMENT THAN PHELBOTOMIES”! Plus it is kinda pricey…

I forgot I got a free week of custom meal plans with my subscription! I got a reminder while I was on The Iron Exchange! I just did that, very cool. I forgot a few things I did not like and it spit out another one. I got to change it 3 times! I also did a little research on The Binding Factor! I never heard of those either! I ordered that as well! I already feel so much more motivated! I am having my groceries delivered by Whole Foods, and my girlfriend is on board, she loved that Meal Plan! She loves to cook, this might make things very easy for the both of us. She has been trying to get me to eat healthier! Not sure I am ready for Red Iight saunas, steam rooms, or Yoga, but one step at a time! I think it’s just a guy thing. My girlfriend loves that stuff, so It sounds like a Spa Day…

Yes, I did and I had High Mercury and Aluminum! The mercury I know was from removing my fillings. I should have done the Medical IV removal, but I didn’t. I did it after my Heavy Metal test. I really wish I had done the natural way. It takes a toll coming out so fast (kidneys) it was not pleasant. I am just at the point I need to re-test. Fingers crossed! I have eliminated everything I can think of with Aluminum!

Has anyone had a cardiac MRI after finding out they have hemochromatosis and are Iron loading? I was doing some research and a few studies said they should have a Cardiac MRI if Ferritin is above 1000. I only asked because my husband is, he is constantly in and out of SVT (on a beta blocker for that) and his EF is 50% (although they aren’t concerned he’s on the lowest end of normal and is only 44 yrs old). Just wondering if anyone had one with similar symptoms and what the outcome of it was.
