For me, it was the crushing fatigue. No matter how much I slept, I felt like I got hit by a truck every day.

Same! I thought it was normal aging, but nope—just iron overload.

I swear, ever since my ferritin started coming down, I’ve been thirsty all the time! Is this just me, or is this an HH thing?

I noticed this too! Maybe it’s our bodies flushing out excess iron?

I started drinking way more water after phlebotomies. Maybe it’s the blood loss?

I thought once my ferritin got lower, I’d feel amazing, but nope—I feel worse! Is this normal?! How long did it take to actually feel better?

Took me MONTHS. My doctor said my body was adjusting to the new iron levels.

Explain to me how I have too much iron but also zero energy?!

    • #33419

Iron overload damages mitochondria, which make energy. It’s like having gas in the car but a broken engine!

Antioxidants like green tea, curcumin, and resveratrol help!

You should wait a minimum of 2 weeks. 1st after a phlebotomy your body dumps stored iron from your organs, and 2nd it takes 2 weeks to build up your red blood cells. Hopefully it actually went down. They just did not give it time. I had to find that out myself as well.

ALT, AST, GGT for liver & CRP, ESR for inflammation!
