Why do we have to donate blood for free? I understand it helps people, but this is a medical treatment. Shouldn’t insurance at least cover transportation or make it more accessible?

Right?! It’s not like we’re donating by choice—we have to.

Some people don’t live near donation centers, either. What then?

Exactly! Some people have to drive HOURS just to get treatment.

If this was any other disease, insurance would be all over it. Why not HH?

Has anyone tried getting disability benefits for HH? I was told I ‘wasn’t sick enough’ even though my body is breaking down.

It’s almost impossible to qualify unless your organs are already failing

Which is INSANE. Why do we have to wait for major organ damage before they take us seriously?

I was denied because they said ‘phlebotomy is a treatment’ and I ‘should be fine.’ Meanwhile, I feel awful every day.

It should be classified as a disability for those who suffer long-term effects!

Seriously! The fatigue alone can make working full-time impossible.

If HH is genetic, why aren’t doctors pushing for family screening? Other genetic conditions get tested early—why not this one?

They tell families about BRCA and other genetic risks, but not HH?

It should be standard. Catching it early prevents organ damage and suffering.

Right?! Instead, they wait until it’s too late, and we’re left dealing with the damage.

Even my siblings weren’t told to get tested after I was diagnosed. I had to tell them myself!

That’s crazy. What happened when they finally got tested?

One had high iron already, but at least we caught it early!

I had to FIGHT for a full iron panel. My doctor only wanted to check ferritin and said transferrin saturation ‘wasn’t necessary.’ WHY are we the ones who have to push for proper testing?!

    • #77499

Doctors act like ferritin is the only thing that matters, but transferrin saturation is just as important.

Exactly! Ferritin alone doesn’t tell the full story, so why are they ignoring TS%?

Mine only tested ferritin after I begged. Meanwhile, my TS% was 82%!

It should be part of a standard iron panel, just like cholesterol testing.

If they tested everyone early, people wouldn’t get sick in the first place!

Nausea is the worst! My Dr. tried to tell me it was not a symptom of HH. That is only because it did not come up on his screen😂!

I get migraines when my iron spikes. My doctor thinks it’s from oxidative stress.
