🧠 Your Gut + Iron Levels: The Link Most Doctors Miss

If you’ve dealt with bloating, acid reflux, or food intolerances and have high iron, you’re not imagining it.

    Excess iron can:

    • 🔥 Feed bad gut bacteria (like E. coli & Salmonella)

    • ⚠️ Trigger oxidative stress that damages your gut lining

    • 💔 Destroy healthy probiotics (like Lactobacillus & Bifido)

    • 🚨 Increase inflammation and worsen food sensitivities

Signs your iron might be hurting your gut: ✅ Bloating or gas
    ✅ Constipation or diarrhea
    ✅ Reflux or heartburn
✅ Brain fog or skin flare-ups

💬 Have you noticed any of this? Share your story or ask questions below — we’re in this together.

Has anyone had restless legs with HH? Mine get worse at night, and I don’t know if it’s iron-related.

YES! Low magnesium & electrolyte imbalances can trigger it. Try Magnesium Glycinate before bed! 👍

Too much OR too little iron can cause restless legs. Check your ferritin & TS%!

I never thought about electrolytes being a factor!

Why does my blood pressure spike after phlebotomy? I thought losing blood would lower it! 🤯

Blood loss → temporary dehydration → BP spike. Make sure you drink enough fluids before & after! 👍

Also, if your body is adjusting to lower iron, your BP might fluctuate for a while.

That makes sense. I’ll try increasing water & electrolytes before my next draw.

Yes! Coconut water + a pinch of sea salt can help stabilize BP!

How do you keep up with phlebotomy when life gets busy? I keep having to reschedule, and I know that’s not good. 😩

All iron-binding polyphenols—green tea, curcumin, quercetin, and resveratrol. Works alongside diet & phlebotomy.

Does anyone else feel worse after phlebotomy if they don’t eat enough protein? I swear I crash if I don’t have a solid meal after. 🍗

Yes! Protein helps rebuild your blood cells. I always eat eggs or chicken after my draw. 👍

Also, add healthy fats! Avocados, nuts, and olive oil help with recovery.

I usually just drink water after—maybe that’s why I feel so drained!

I saw someone say that meal timing is just as important as what you eat. Can someone break this down for me?

Yes! When you eat affects iron absorption! 👍

Iron Absorption Boosters: Vitamin C, red meat, alcohol. Take these AWAY from meals if you need to lower iron.

So if I eat chicken, I should pair it with tea instead of fruit?

Exactly! Tea, dairy, and calcium block iron absorption during meals.

Simple trick: Green tea with meals, Vitamin C away from meals. That alone can make a big difference!
