My doctor told me HH doesn’t cause joint pain. Meanwhile, my hands and knees feel like I’m 80 years old. Is this true?!

That’s a complete lie. Iron deposits in joints over time. 👍

I was told the same thing—until I got arthritis from HH.

So frustrating! I wish doctors actually understood this disease.

Anyone else feel like HH is robbing them of energy? I can sleep 9 hours and still wake up exhausted. What actually helped you?

Phlebotomy helped, but it took months before my energy came back. 👍

Magnesium and Omega-3s helped reduce my fatigue.

I need to try that! Do you take supplements or get it from food?

Both! Magnesium glycinate works best for me.

Just got my ferritin checked again, and it’s still over 400. My doctor told me to ‘just eat less red meat’ and wouldn’t order phlebotomy yet. Is this normal?!

    • #78267

That’s NOT normal. Ferritin over 400 should be treated! 👍

Some doctors act like diet alone will fix this. It won’t!

Exactly! No amount of diet changes will pull stored iron out of my organs.

You need a second opinion. Push for phlebotomy!

If insurance covers gym memberships for diabetes, why doesn’t it cover sauna therapy for HH? Sweating helps lower iron too!

Because they don’t recognize non-drug treatments. It’s all about profits.

Doctors don’t seem to connect iron overload to mental health. I had anxiety and brain fog for YEARS before getting diagnosed. Anyone else?

    • #78241

They put me on antidepressants instead of checking my iron. Turns out, it was just HH messing with my brain. 🤯

Same! Why isn’t iron screening the FIRST thing they check?

Anxiety was my first symptom. I didn’t connect it to iron until way later.

Why is HH ignored when it leads to diabetes, heart disease, liver failure, and dementia? If it was anything else, we’d see awareness campaigns everywhere!

There’s no big-money drug for HH, so it’s ignored. Simple as that.

If we had a billion-dollar drug, we’d have HH commercials during the Super Bowl!

How many of us had our HH symptoms dismissed because we ‘don’t look sick’? The exhaustion, joint pain, and brain fog are invisible, but that doesn’t make them any less real. 😡

What’s stopping you from submitting an article? The more voices we have, the harder it is to ignore us. If you’ve been misdiagnosed, dismissed, or struggled to get the right tests, your story NEEDS to be heard!

Awareness doesn’t just happen—it’s created. If we don’t push for HH to be taken seriously, who will? We can either wait for change or BE the change. Who’s ready to make some noise?

I just submitted an article to push for CBC W/Ferritin on routine blood panels! I focused on how early testing is cheaper than treating HH complications later. If we want change, we have to fight for it! Who else is submitting?

    • #78177

      Guest

I wrote one on adding a Full Iron Panel! Did you know they test every baby for Maple Syrup Disease, which affects fewer than 5,000 people? But we can’t get ferritin on a CBC?

        Guest

That’s insane! They can afford that, but not an iron test?

        • #78181

Right?! If they can justify that, they can justify adding iron screening.

I wrote mine on how ferritin testing isn’t just for HH—low ferritin is a huge red flag for anemia, too. Millions of people would benefit from it.
