Can anyone break down the iron-blocking foods in simple terms? What should I eat if I know my meal has iron?

Iron Blockers: Green tea, black tea, dairy, calcium, eggs, turmeric, and coffee. Drink with meals! 👍

Iron Absorbers: Vitamin C, alcohol, and red meat increase iron absorption. Keep them separate!

Got it! So if I eat chicken, I can drink tea, but if I eat spinach, I should avoid orange juice?

Exactly! Smart food pairing helps control iron levels.

I read that vitamin C helps absorb iron, but tea and calcium block it. Does this mean I should avoid fruit with meals?! This diet is so complicated. 😩

It’s all about timing. Eat vitamin C-rich foods away from high-iron meals if you want to block absorption. 👍

Green tea or dairy with meals helps block iron. I do that if I know I’m eating something with iron.

Good to know! So fruit = good, but just not with steak?

Yep! Think about what you pair together.

Does anyone else feel completely lost when it comes to diet? Some say avoid all iron, others say don’t worry about it. What ACTUALLY works?!

Same! I’ve heard ‘don’t eat red meat’ but also ‘only non-heme iron matters.’ It’s so confusing. 👍

I tried cutting out ALL iron, but I started feeling worse. There has to be a better way.

I feel like we need a balanced approach, but no one explains what that is.

Exactly! It’s not just about iron, but how we absorb it.

I was diagnosed two weeks ago and already feel overwhelmed. My doctor said ‘diet doesn’t matter,’ but that doesn’t seem right. What should I actually be eating?

Ugh, doctors say that all the time. Diet DOES matter. It won’t ‘cure’ HH, but it can slow down iron absorption and help manage symptoms. 🍵 👍

I started the Custom HH Meal Plan and it made everything SO much easier. It tells you what to eat and when!

I read that iron overload can affect gut health. Has anyone had stomach issues from HH?

Yes! My digestion has been awful since my iron levels got high. 👍

It did, but I also had to cut out certain foods.

My doctor told me HH ‘isn’t a big deal’ and that my symptoms are ‘probably just menopause.’ How many of you were told the same?

YES! They blamed everything on ‘aging’ instead of testing my iron. 👍

What’s something you wish you knew when you were first diagnosed?

That symptoms can start even when ferritin is ‘normal’! 👍

That iron can build up in the brain, causing neurological issues.

I wish I knew that sooner! I feel like my doctor never explained the risks properly.

Does anyone else struggle with brain fog? Some days, I feel like I can’t even form a complete thought. It’s getting worse.

Get an ECG or echocardiogram just to be safe. Iron overload can affect the heart muscle.
